Welcome

Welcome to Barber County!  We are located in South Central Kansas next to the Oklahoma border.  Our county has approximately 5,300 residents and eight towns.  The largest town and county seat is Medicine Lodge.  Next in population is Kiowa then Sharon, Hardtner, Hazelton, Isabel, Sun City and Lake City.

As you can tell by the names we have a very colorful history and love to share our past with visitors.  We are blessed to be home to the Gypsum Hills and have a beautiful scenic drive that takes you through the heart of the hills.  We are also home to the Medicine Lodge Stockade and Carry Nation Home Museums.  Kiowa was one of the starting places for the Oklahoma Land Rush and hosts a wonderful museum in its town.

Currently our biggest revenue in the county comes from oil and gas production.  Followed closely by  livestock and crop production, mainly beef, wheat, corn, cotton, alfalfa, sorghum and milo.  We also have a gypsum rock mine, quarry and mill which produces sheet rock used in housing construction.

Below are links to some of our biggest attractions and towns.  If you look under "news" you will find links to our local newspapers which are published weekly.
